Do Androids Dream of Electric Victim-Blamers?

Ever get into an online argument about someone with brown skin who'd been senselessly slaughtered by state-appointed law officers and start to feel like you're talking with someone who's not quite in possession of the full complement of human empathy? (more…)

Hop the kangaroo just wants to make friends with a cat

Hop the kangaroo just wants to give his feline friend a tickle — but the cat is not having a bar of it.

In a video filmed by Paul Cesnick in the town of Bega, in New South Wales, Hop is left confused after the cat rejects his attempts at affection. It started off so well, with a little scratch between the eyes, but it isn't long before the cat lashes out and runs off, leaving poor Hop with tears in his eyes

It is a lonely life for Hop sometimes, with the native Australian often just playing with the clothes on the washing line.

He thought this time it would be different. Hop along, Hop.

When Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington uncorked a 48-yard touchdown run to cap a 39-32 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, he wasn't even his team's biggest star on the play

No, that honor goes to backup Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton, who lost his cool in most glorious fashion while watching from the sideline

Let's break down the film. First, Stanton seems to remain semi-composed while encouraging Ellington downfield with a windmilling arm. Then he seems to do an impression of a wounded bird. Then he hops, pops a squat and pumps his fists with vigor. Behold the dorky glory: Read more...

Japanese electronics maker NEC has unveiled a unique input mechanism that allows you to type on your arm using augmented reality

The system is called the ARmKeypad and it combines a set of glasses to visualize the virtual keyboard and a smartwatch to detect how fast you type

Designed as a means to give workers a "hands-free" way of working while maintaining the ability to input text into a database, the company describes the ArmKeypad as better than other next-gen input methods such as voice interfaces, which are difficult to operate in noisy environments

"Pass go," "Get out of jail," and "Try not to fall for that guy with the monocle."

These are just some of the basic maneuvers players carry out in an ordinary game of Monopoly. But what if the game was used for a higher purpose — say, asking for your significant other's hand in marriage?

Thrifter extraordinaire Justin Lebon managed to use the money-grubbing forces of Park Place and that little silver top hat for romantic good. Lebon, who shared his story on Hasbro's Facebook page, was certain that his girlfriend, Michal Ott, was the woman for him. He also knew that her favorite board game Monopoly would serve as a great proposal tool. Read more...

Andy Samberg Gives Out A Functioning HBO NOW Login On Tonight’s Emmys

CPY71RHWoAAy_BY So remember that time when HBO CEO Richard Plepler said that he didn’t care if users shared their HBO account passwords? Apparently, so did Emmy host Andy Samberg. Joking around tonight at the 67th Annual Emmy Awards, the comedian gave out what he said was his login and password to the HBO NOW streaming service. But it wasn’t just a joke as it turned out – it was a… Read More

Good Email Club Reads You The Positive Emails In Your Inbox

good email club I’ll admit it: Sometimes a mean or pushy email can ruin my whole morning, especially if it’s the very first thing I see. It seems like JeanCarl Bisson (a technical evangelist for IBM) and Adarsh Uppula (co-founder at hiring startup Gogohire) have had this problem, too. That’s why they built a service called Good Email Club at this weekend’s TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon. Read More

BetterDriver.Club Wants To Make You A Better Driver — And Help You Win Money

disrupt_hackathon We saw a couple of car hacks during our Disrupt SF Hackathon today. One that stood out for me was BetterDriver.Club. Mike and Peter Tuszynski, two brothers who flew in all the way from Poland to participate in the event, had originally planned to build a healthcare app. But after seeing the $149 Vinli OBD-II plug, which combines an LTE hotspot with the ability to read data from a cars’… Read More
